The word “forum” originates from Roman times and was a place for lively and often heated debate among the citizens. It wasn’t unheard of for insults to be hurled and daggers to be drawn – an image which uncomfortably sprang to mind when SIS launched the idea of holding its own forum for customers. The more modern dictionary definition of a forum is “a meeting or assembly for the open discussion of subjects of interest” – and, thankfully, so it’s proved since SIS held its first get-together back in 2007. That’s not to say that strident opinions have been absent. Nor have customers held back in getting issues off their chests. But over the course of more than 30 such gatherings, the SIS forum has developed into much more than a chance to let off steam. SIS now regards the forums as the starting point for changes and initiatives in the service to betting shops, while LBO customers, by their continued response, clearly see it as their opportunity to influence the service they receive.
