The latest BAGS Track Championship gets under way today – with a brand new website to showcase the series.
The new site – www.bagsracing.com – has been launched to coincide with the second staging of the championship, which this year is worth £160,000.
First meeting is a Halloween thriller at Belle Vue when the Manchester track hosts Nottingham and Sheffield. Eighteen tracks are taking part – following the addition of Peterborough – and SIS is screening the series exclusively as part of its betting shop services.
The first championship was held last year and proved a huge success, among fans, connections and punters – so much so that BAGS decided to roll out the new website dedicated solely to the championship.
The site has been designed by former Racing Post journalist Paul Millward, who said: “I’ve tried it make it an interesting destination for owners, trainers and enthusiasts, as well as giving the man in the betting shop an opportunity to get some insight into how the Championship works and its importance.”
As well as a full schedule and cards, the site carries form and analysis of the runners; details of each track and how to get there; results, reports and pictures; and even question and answer sessions with the racing managers – which reveal that with poetry, football and fishing among their interests, they are much more than just greyhound fans!
Graham McLennan, BAGS Secretary, said: “The website will offer greyhound followers and betting shop punters a chance to keep up to date with the action and points table. We hope it will add to the colour and excitement of the event.”
The tracks are split into six groups on a regional basis and the competition builds to the grand final on December 23 – a day when there is no UK horse racing.
